The Bird Man of Dubai was one of those unexpected travel moments that becomes an unforgettable moment you carry for the rest of your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This video could be considered an interlude to our busy travel videos and more importantly, an effort to share an unexpected but incredible experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is the Birdman of Dubai?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Quite frankly, we don’t know. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The title of ‘Birdman of Dubai’ was something that came about when we would reference the experience and remember this incredible moment of being in the thick of all those birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After poking around online, we found an article in the Kahleej Times<\/a>, but it’s a different ‘Birdman’. There are a lot of references to people called ‘Birdman’ who use jetpacks and other unique ways to fly. Again, not our guy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, an interesting article talks about the great work of Dr. Reza Khan who records rare wildlife species in the UAE<\/a>. Obviously, not our guy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All we know for certain are the number of people who were drawn to the sight of so many birds coming together at sunset, offering a stunning spectacle as the land and fly away after picking at the food thrown to the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind the scenes (possible spoilers)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned in other posts, this trip was the first travel adventure we knew would make it onto YouTube. While there aren\u2019t as many moments of speaking to the camera as a modern travel Vlog, even one would\u2019ve been more than seen in any prior trips. And yes, we do plan on publishing past travel adventures, low resolutions and all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was an opportunity to deliver a more ‘in the moment’ artistic video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It really happened as seen in the video<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wendy has such a great eye for the perfect scene, when you see her looking at anything for any length of time, always check out it out! When she started scanning the rooflines, my first thought was, ‘Those are just a few birds.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It didn’t take long to realize there were more than just a few, and the number was growing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An annoying generator overwhelms the sound in the first few scenes, but this helped direct the narrative when editing the footage. By removing the sound all together, the viewer is led to the moment the birds start drowning out the loud, man-made construction noises. Having only the music at the beginning helps set the tone of the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, this artistic, audible direction loses the moment Wendy is heard suggesting we follow the birds to see what’s causing the Hitchcock-inspired flocks<\/a> to congregate on the mosque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with many of our travel adventures, by sheer luck we timed this moment just right, walking into the thick of the feeding, capturing the moment the sky was most filled with the birds. A clear day with a gorgeous sunset certainly didn’t hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
