Like many modern travelers, the Sacred Valley and its ancient ruins were always high on our bucket list. How could it not be? The fascinating Inca Empire, their feats of engineering such as terraced farming and of course the legendary Machu Picchu ruins located in the Peru’s Sacred Valley.

It’s ironic to think we would be able to check this item off said bucket list during a modern pandemic, but we did just that in September 2021.

More about Machu Picchu

Touring Machu Picchu, Pisac, and the Sacred Valley is an unforgettable experience that offers a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the ancient Inca civilization.

The Sacred Valley, which stretches from Pisac to Ollantaytambo, is a region filled with stunning natural beauty and archaeological sites. The valley is home to numerous Inca ruins, including the impressive fortress of Ollantaytambo, which is believed to have been built to protect against invading forces.

Machu Picchu is considered one of the seven wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The incredible ruins offer visitors a glimpse into the engineering prowess of the Inca civilization, with impressive stone structures that have stood the test of time for over 500 years.

Often overlooked, Pisac is another fascinating destination located in the Sacred Valley. Home to an impressive Inca fortress and popular market filled with vendors selling handmade textiles, ceramics, and other traditional Peruvian goods. The fortress offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and is a testament to the military might of the Inca civilization.

We wrapped up our time in Peru visiting Rainbow Mountain, or Vinicunca. Located to the southeast of the city of Cusco, our two-hour drive started before dawn to explore the natural formation of colored stripes that give it the name of Rainbow Mountain.

This was the first travel adventure we considered posting on YouTube. Although it wasn’t shot with a travel Vlog in mind, the amazing scenes and breathtaking beauty compelled us to venture into the crazy world of YouTube vlogging.

As with many travel adventures, the best things just fell into place. Looking back and watching the video, it would seem obvious not to have our tour guide JJ take us around Machu Picchu, but we came very close to not having him along. He originally approached us at the entrance of Ollantaytambo and we nearly said no!

We’re so glad we eventually said yes.
